WRIT1999 - How do I apply?
Summer Semester 2026/2027 Offering
The WRIT1999 course is offered as part of the Enhanced Studies Program (ESP) as a one week intensive course over the summer holidays (January 2027 is part of UQ's Summer Semester, 2026) from Monday 11 to Friday 15 January 2027.
The goal of the course is to assist students from specific backgrounds in Year 11 to improve their Year 12 performance and gain access to university. Further details are on the Critical Thinking Project website.
Applications open Monday 10 August, 2026 and close at 5pm Sunday 29 November 2026. No late applications can be accepted.
Please check your email regularly for updates on your application and apply for acommodation early if interested.
To participate in WRIT1999, you must meet general elibility and academic eligibility criteria to apply.
WRIT1999 (Summer Semester 2026) is restricted to students who are in Year 11 in 2026 and going into Year 12 in 2027.
*General eligibility
One or more of the following:
- enrolled in a Queensland school at or below 1000 ICSEA (check the My School website), or
- educationally or financially disadvantaged as affirmed by the school principal (see 1.6 of the Rules and Guidelines for more information), or
- an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student enrolled in any Queensland school, or
- you are a participant in the Young Achievers Program.
Students must demonstrate a minimum average grade of B across at least 4 subjects and no less than a C in their Year 11 English subject, either in the semester prior to application or during the semester of application, as verified by the school principal.
Please note, this program is conducted in-person on the UQ St Lucia Campus. All eligible students must be based in Queensland, Australia.

All students
You will need to provide:
- Your most recent semester report card (i.e. Year 11, Semester 1); and
- A signed permission form which must be signed by your parents/guardians as well as your school prinicipal (or authorised representative - e.g. Head of Year, Guidance Officer, etc). Please ensure all fields are completed.
You need to apply and upload your completed and signed documents from step 2 (report card and permission form).
When applying, please note:
- When creating an account you must use your official full name as it appears on your school record.
- Please use your personal email address (not EQ) so you can retain access to UQ systems, beyond your high school years.
- If you are eligible, you will be sent an offer. Please log in and acccept your offer by the due date.
- Read the 2027 WRIT1999 Rules and Guidelines first.
- Have your signed permission form and official school report card ready to upload.

Student accommodation (The Women's College)
We will be offering fully catered on-campus accommodation at The Women's College located at The University of Queensland, St Lucia campus. Please note:
- Limited places are available!
- Students will be supervised by a staff member with a Blue Card.
- Accommodation bookings and payment must be made by the due date (TBC)
- You can apply for accommodation once you have received and accepted your offer.

2027 dates and fees to be confirmed. As a guide, the following accommodation options were available for 2026:
- Sunday 11 - Saturday 17, January 2026 (6 nights) = $399
- Sunday 11 - Friday 16, January 2026 (5 nights) = $332.50
- Monday 12 - Friday 16, January 2026(4 nights) = $266
- Monday 12 - Saturday 17, January 2026(5 nights) = $332.50
- Sunday 11 - Sunday 18, January 2026 (7 nights) = $465.50
