WRIT1999 - How do I apply?
Summer Semester 2025 Offering
The WRIT1999 course is offered as part of the Enhanced Studies Program (ESP) as a one week intensive course over the summer holidays (January 2026 is part of UQ's Summer Semester, 2025) from Monday 12 to Friday 16 January 2026.
The goal of the course is to assist students from specific backgrounds in Year 11 to improve their Year 12 performance and gain access to university. Further details are on the Critical Thinking Project website.
Applications are expected to open mid to late August 2025 and close at 5pm Friday 18 October 2025. No late applications can be accepted.
Please check your email regularly for updates on your application and apply for acommodation early if interested.
To participate in WRIT1999, you must meet general elibility and academic eligibility criteria to apply.
WRIT1999 (Summer Semester 2025) is restricted to students who are in Year 11 in 2025 and going into Year 12 in 2026.
General eligibility
One or more of the following:
- are located regionally or remotely
- come from low-socioeconomic backgrounds*
- attend one of the eligible schools
- you are a participant in the Young Achievers Program; or
- identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
*Please note that additional supporting documentation may be requested if not from an eligible school.
Academic eligibility
You need to be achieving a B average in your four best subjects and a pass in English to be considered.

All students
You will need to provide:
- Your most recent semester report card (i.e. Year 11, Semester 1); and
- A signed permission form which must be signed by your parents/guardians as well as your school prinicipal (or authorised representative - e.g. Head of Year, Guidance Officer, etc). Please ensure all fields are completed.
You need to apply and upload your completed and signed documents from step 2 (report card and permission form) on our new application platform. A link will be provided here when applications open.
When applying, please note:
- When creating an account please use your official full name as it appears on your school record, otherwise your results may not be able to be reported to QCAA.
- Please use your personal email address so you can retain access to UQ systems, beyond your high school years.
- If you are eligible, you will be sent an offer. Please log in and acccept your offer by the due date.

Student accommodation (The Women's College)
We will be offering fully catered on-campus accommodation at The Women's College located at The University of Queensland, St Lucia campus. Please note:
- Limited places are available!
- Students will be supervised by a staff member with a Blue Card.
- Accommodation bookings and payment must be made by the due date (date TBC)
- You can apply for accommodation once you have received and accepted your offer.
